Access to Careers in Engineering
The Access to Careers in Engineering (ACE) course series focuses on the successful transition and orientation of both new freshmen and transfer students to engineering studies at UCSD, with particular emphasis on those students coming from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
ECE 1A ACE First Year Orientation Course (1 unit) - Fall Quarter, Fridays
This course addresses issues that are critical in the first year of engineering study at UCSD. The course is designed to assist new students
in making a smooth and informed transition from high school and community college to the university and their chosen engineering major. The
lectures focus on study skills, academic planning, and using campus and community resources to help achieve academic, personal and professional goals.
ECE 1B ACE Professional Development Series (1 unit) - Winter Quarter, Fridays
Weekly meetings provide information about engineering career options, career planning, resume development, and expectations for career professionals.
ECE 1C ACE Professional Development Series (1 unit) - Spring Quarter, Fridays
The professional development course series continues with discussion of graduate school preparation, evaluating job offers, and project management skills.
Activities include presentations by UCSD faculty, alumni, and practicing professional engineers, as well as panel discussions with human resources
professionals from industry.
