Speaker Bio
Gregory M. Papadopoulos, Ph.D
Dr. Papadopoulos is currently a Venture Partner at New Enterprise Associates. With more than twenty years' experience in the technology industry, Greg Papadopoulos has held several executive positions, most recently serving as Chief Technology Officer at Sun Microsystems, where he directed the company's $2B R&D portfolio. Along with having been a practicing engineer with HP and Honeywell, Greg has also help found a number of his own companies, from video conferencing (PictureTel) to computational fluid dynamics (Exa Corporation). Greg was also an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where he conducted research in scalable systems, multithreaded/data flow processor architecture, functional and declarative languages, and fault-tolerant computing.
Dr. Papadopoulos holds a bachelor’s degree in systems science from the University of California at San Diego, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.
Dr. Bahram Nour-Omid
Dr. Nour-Omid is a founding member of Shelter Capital Partners, LLC.,a private Venture Capital firm in Southern California with investments focus in Information Technology. He is specifically focused on application software for Telecommunication, Health Care, Infrastructure and Enterprise Business Automation markets. He has extensive executive level management experience with Enterprise Software Solutions companies such as CRM, ERP, Supply Chain Management Systems, and E-Commerce.
Dr. Nour-Omid earned a B.S. from the University of London’s Imperial College, and an M.S. in Structural Engineering, M.A. in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Engineering and three years of Post-Doctorate study in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley.
David Schwab
Dave Schwab is a Managing Director at Sierra Ventures. He has been with Sierra since 1996 and founded the firm’s software investment practice. He has led the firm’s investments in Micromuse (MUSE-NASDAQ), Interact Commerce Corp. (IACT-NASDAQ), Onlink Technologies (Acquired by Siebel Systems), Motiva (Acquired by Siebel Systems), 360Commerce Inc. (Acquired by Oracle) and CrossLogix (Acquired by BEA Systems, Inc.)
In addition to an MBA from Harvard Business School, Schwab holds two graduate engineering degrees from Stanford University and an undergraduate engineering degree from UC San Diego.
