The MIT Technology and Policy Program

By Melinda Rose

The Technology and Policy Program (TPP) was founded in 1976 and resides within the MIT Engineering Systems Division (ESD), which is part of the School of Engineering. Our mission is “To educate engineers and scientists in responsible leadership of technology development by implementing polices for the benefit of humanity.” Embedded in our mission are three educational principles, to provide an integrative education with dual professional excellence in engineering/science and policy, expertise in managing conflicting interests in the policy making process, and effective leadership skills in an ever changing technological environment.

Our Master of Science program prepares students for careers in government, industry, consulting and academia. TPP students can continue on to doctoral studies in Technology, Management and Policy (TMP), which is housed within the Engineering Systems Division.

Two years is normally required to complete our degree requirements, which include an interdisciplinary research thesis focused on a technology policy issue. For more details, visit our web site at, http://tppserver.mit.edu/.

Please do hesitate to contact us at tpp@mit.edu, or Ed Ballo directly at eballo@mit.edu. Also please note that the application deadline for Fall 2010 admissions is January 11, 2010.
