William C. Bailey Memorial Scholarships
This award was established in 2008 to honor William C. Bailey for his exceptional contributions to the post‐tensioning industry. Mr. Bailey, deceased, was a Fellow of PTI and was an active member over his 30‐plus year career in the post‐tensioning industry. He served as PTI President in 1993‐1994 and as Chairman of the Unbonded Tendon Committee. Funding has been provided by many of his peers and long‐time friends in the industry. The scholarship
is for undergraduate (senior level) and graduate study in the field of concrete structures with an emphasis on structural design, materials, construction, or any combination thereof with a clear focus on post‐tensioning design and application.
Two scholarships of $3,500 each will be awarded for the Spring 2010 school term. Award recipients will be selected and announced December 14, 2009. In addition, the award recipient and their faculty advisor will be honored at an awards ceremony that will be held in conjunction with the Post‐Tensioning Institute’s 2010 Annual Technical Conference. The student and his/her faculty advisor will be invited to attend the conference and awards presentation at PTI expense.

ELIGIBILITY:
- Full‐time student during entire scholarship year in the U.S. or Canada
- Graduate or Undergraduate Students with a minimum of 3 years completed coursework
- Study area in the area of concrete structures with an emphasis on structural design,materials, construction, or any combination thereof with a clear focus on posttensioningdesign and application. Graduate research in post‐tensioned concrete designand application will be considered.
- Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in a bachelor''s or master’s program from an institution of higher education which is accredited by the responsible regional or national agency
- All applicants must be proficient in the English language. If English is not your native language, a written statement must be attached to this application attesting to thisproficiency.
APPLICATION:
- Completed application form
- One‐page resume
- An essay describing the applicant’s thoughts and interest in post‐tensioning and itsrelation to his/her career objectives (1 to 2‐pages, 1500 words maximum)
- All undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all universities attended. Transcripts are only accepted if:
- They are original documents. Unofficial transcripts, copies of transcripts, faxed, or emailed transcripts are not acceptable under any circumstance.
- They are mailed directly from the university or
- They are mailed by the student but are in a sealed envelope with a university stamp over the seal.
- They are in English or accompanied by a translated English version as well as an explanation of the grading scale if different from the 4.0 scale used in the United States.
- If transcripts sent to PTI have a different last name than what appears on your application (maiden name), be sure to note it in parentheses on the name line of this application.
- Scheduled classes for Spring 2010 school term.
- Two (2) completed reference forms, one of which shall be from the student’s faculty sponsor. Reference forms are statements of evaluation of the applicant, in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity, and career interest, which are required from two evaluators. One reference form must be from a faculty member. All reference forms must be submitted in English. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all application materials are received by the deadline.
- Application form, resume, and essay must be mailed or e‐mailed together in a single package;
- The deadline for all application materials is before midnight on November 13, 2009. Please be sure that your name is on every piece of material submitted.
- This scholarship can be withdrawn for failure to comply with any of the items above.
