ESS Photo Contest

Engineering Student Services Photography Contest:
“Triton Engineering: Location, Innovation, Celebration!”
With the soon-to-be redesigned EBU1, Engineering Student Services would like to revamp its look and showcase the beauty of the Jacobs School and UC San Diego, while highlighting the people who make it what it is, you the students! Send us your favorite pictures of you working and playing at this great university. Entry is free and open to all Jacobs School students. Entrants are encouraged to submit photos of the following subjects:
- Students – We want to see you! Group photos, individual photos, we want to see the people who make UCSD and the Jacobs School what it is.
- Labs – Show us your work space! Highlight the labs you work in and the great projects that come out of them.
- Projects – Have you worked on a project or entered in a competition? Show us your piece! We want to see your engineering skills come to life!
Winning photographs will be displayed in Engineering Student Services and may be used in additional printed and digital materials or videos produced by the Jacobs School. Photographer credit will be given for every reproduction that is published by Engineering Student Services.
Prizes:
First Place: $100
Second Place: $75
Third Place: $50
One category, the People’s Choice Award, will be voted on by attendees at the photo exhibit to take place during Winter Quarter 2010. The winner of this award will receive a $50 Gift Certificate compliments of the UCSD Bookstore.
Rules:
1. Photo Exhibit will take place in Winter 2010 at Jacobs Hall, at which entries will be judged for winners. A specific date and time will be announced later.
2. Only Jacobs School students/Engineering majors are eligible to submit entries.
3. No more than 2 entries may be submitted per student.
4. Entries must address the theme “Triton Engineering: Location, Innovation, Celebration!”
5. Entries must be submitted by 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009.
6. Photos must be submitted in high resolution .JPG, .TIFF or .RAW format.
7. Images must not have been digitally altered after they were taken.
8. Photographs submitted must be the original work and exclusive property of the photographer.
9. Entries must be labeled accordingly and submitted via email to Melinda Rose at mirose@ucsd.edu.
10. An “artist statement” must be included in email. The “artist statement” should include: a) your name; b) name of your photo; c) one paragraph (75 words max.) explaining your photo, how it relates to the contest theme; your artistic goal; and, d) one paragraph (50 words max.) explaining who you are and what you’d like people to know about you (a bio).
11. Three winners will be selected at the sole discretion of a panel of Jacobs School faculty and staff judges. The People’s Choice award will be voted on by attendees at the photo exhibit.
12. Winners of all awards will be announced by email.
13. Participation in the contest and photographer credit irrevocably grants Engineering Student Services the right to unlimited use of the photographs for any purpose, including but not limited to, publications, outreach and educational materials.
