In Memory
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of two of our beloved
faculty.
Massoud Simnad died on December 15, 2001 at his home in Virginia.
A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Prof. Simnad joined UCSD
in 1981 as an adjunct professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
He was best known for his work on materials and fuels for nuclear energy
and fusion research.
Sidney Sobin, adjunct professor of bioengineering, passed away
on October 22, 2001. Prof. Sobin was the founder of the Cardiovascular
Laboratory at the University of Southern California before coming to UCSD
and a founding fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological
