Jacobs School and Corporate Affiliates Partner in Team Internship Initiative
Six teams of Jacobs School
undergraduate students will be
deployed at ABIOMED, Cymer,
Inc., Callaway Golf Company,
Lockheed Martin ORINCON Corp.
and SPAWAR Systems Center,
San Diego this summer as part of
the School's team internship
initiative. The aim is to enhance
students' education through realworld
engineering experience in a
multi-disciplinary team
environment. Nearly 150 students
applied for the program, and 25
students were hand-selected to
participate.
"Companies receive the benefit of our talented students, and because the students are working as a team, they can communicate well across engineering disciplines to bring a true systems approach to their solution," said Anne O'Donnell, director of the Jacobs School Corporate Affiliates Program. She says a key to the success of team internships is well-defined, substantive projects. During their 10-week internships this summer, Jacobs School student teams will be working on projects ranging from a system to track and receive data on golf club selection and performance, to development of deformable blood contacting surfaces for an implantable artificial heart. For more information, please contact Anne O'Donnell, odonnell@ucsd.edu, (858) 822- 5963.
