#5 - UC San Diego ranks fifth among 600 U.S. universities in federal research and development spending, according to recently released figures from the National Science Foundation. UCSD R&D expenditures totaled $708.7 million for FY05.
#6 - The Washington Monthly Guide (2006 College Guide) rates UCSD 6th among 150 U.S. universities as measured by three categories: community service; scientific and humanistic research; and social mobility.
#8 - Kiplinger Personal Finance (Sept. 2006) ranked UCSD 8th among the 500 public universities for delivering a 'grade-A education without students accumulating significant debt.' According to Kiplinger, UCSD's $6,681annual resident fee/tuition is slightly higher than the national average of $5,491 for public colleges, while the average private colleges' annual tuition is $21,235 per year.
