Individuals with degrees in engineering, computer sciences, or the sciences (chemistry, biology, physics and related disciplines), can take the Patent Bar Exam to become a patent agent. Patent agents are in-demand and usually make about $10,000/year more than similarly situated engineers and scientists. Becoming a patent agent can also be a strong step toward the even more lucrative career of becoming a patent attorney.
