The Jacobs School's von Liebig Center is a unique program to foster commercialization of Jacobs School discoveries. The Center's team of technology advisors guides faculty through the commercialization process and introduces them to experts, alliances and venture funding opportunities. In addition, the Center awards pre-seed technology funds to confirm the commercial potential of new discoveries and perform proof of concept research. External technology reviewers and investors are welcome to participate in the advancement of new technologies into the marketplace.

The TechTIPS office manages the intellectual property developed at UCSD. Among their many responsibilities, the TechTIPS team protects intellectual property through the disclosure and patenting process, negotiates technology transfer agreements with industry, and markets UCSD inventions to potential licensees.
