Xanthippi MarkenscoffProfessor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Solid mechanics and materials science, elasticity, and fracture dynamics. Professor Markenscoff’s interests lie in elasticity theory, singular asymptotics, defect mechanics, configurational mechanics, elastodynamics of defects, and micromechanics, bridging of the micro to the macro- scale phenomena.
Capsule Bio: Professor Markenscoff received her Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and her Ph.D. from Princeton University. She has been research Associate at MIT and Brown University, Assistant Professor at Carnegie-Mellon, and Associate and Full Professor at UCSB before joining UCSD. She was a Visiting Miller Professor at UC Berkeley in 2003 and a Russell Severance Springer Distinguished Visiting Professor in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2008.She is a Fellow of ASME and the Society of Engineering Science (SES).
