Medical Device Engineering

Students gain a deep and broad education in biology, mechanical design, and materials focused on medical devices engineering. Our program provides training in biology, mechanics, materials and physiology; and specialized education in electro-mechanical design, biomechanics, systems and controls, and bioelectronics delivered with direct application to the design of novel medical devices and biomedical instrumentation.

  • specialized courses in clinical needs assessment
  • capstone project: designing and prototyping a medical device or instrument
  • technical education in mechanics and transport, anatomy and physiology, biomaterials
  • instruction in life science technologies, embedded controls, computer-aided design
  • introduction to business issues including product launching, regulatory and payment issues, and standards/compliance
