Tom Renbarger has 15 years of experience in the design, implementation, and characterization of telescopes and astronomical receivers. His work spans all observational platforms: ground-based, balloon-borne, rocket-borne, and satellites. His research areas include galactic magnetic fields, the cosmic microwave background (the relic radiation left over from the hot, compact stage of the universe’s history), and the search for the first starlight. He has just returned from White Sands Missile Range where he was part of the CIBER launch team, a rocket-borne experiment with four near-infrared telescopes designed to find the spectral and spatial signatures of the first stars.
