Continuing Education

The University of California, San Diego is dedicated to the intellectual growth and lifelong learning for engineers in the San Diego region and beyond. In addition to the Jacobs School's M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs, UCSD offers a number of programs for individuals who want to continue their education.

Masters of Engineering
The Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) program is ideally suited for engineers who want to advance their career in industry and who do not plan to pursue a Ph.D. The program can be completed in one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study, does not require a research thesis or comprehensive exam, and has a flexible curriculum allowing for a wide variety of professional career goals, e.g., business and management.

Take an Engineering Course
Individuals may take UCSD engineering courses for credit or enrichment without formal admission to the university. The options below are tailored to meet the needs of prospective students seeking to fill admissions or major preparation requirements, as well as professional engineers seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Concurrent Enrollment: Individuals may take undergraduate or graduate courses during the academic year. This program is managed by UCSD Extension. More Details »

Cross Enrollment: Undergraduate students registered at a California Community College or State University may enroll in an undergraduate course during the academic year at a discounted rate for a maximum of one course per academic term. Enterprise Engineering Leadership Program
The Architecture-Based Enterprise Systems Engineering Leadership program is intended for senior engineers and engineering managers who are interested in the broad issues associated with enterprise-wide development of knowledge and decision support systems that enable effective, adaptive and timely response of an enterprise to the challenges of its business environment. Continuing education credits and a certificate are awarded by the Jacobs School in conjunction with the Rady School of Management upon successful completion of the program. Learn more »

Engineering Institute with Los Alamos National Laboratory
The Jacobs School's graduate program in structural health monitoring and validated simulations is provided as collaboration between Los Alamos National Laboratory and UCSD. The program is designed to help prepare, recruit, and retain a technical workforce for the Laboratory. Learn more »

Executive Education
In addition to its MBA programs, the UCSD Rady School of Management offers business and leadership skill development for executives looking to increase their acumen in a non-degreed environment. The Rady School offers both open enrollment and customized programs that are tailored to meet the overall business needs of the organization, while satisfying the development goals of the participant.
