The UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering ranks 10th internationally, according to the 2008 Academic Rankings of World Universities by Subject Field conducted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.

Kiplinger's Personal Finance ranks UCSD 8th nationally for best values in public colleges in the U.S. UCSD outranks UC Berkeley and UCLA in this ranking of the top 50 values in public colleges. The Princeton Review 2007 edition of America's Best Value Colleges also lists UCSD among 150 "best values".

With $141.0 million in federal, state and industry research support in FY07, the Jacobs School ranks 4th in the nation for research expenditures per faculty member, reflecting UCSD's leadership as a research university. (U.S. News, 2008)

UC San Diego graduates rank third nationally in their salary earnings among U.S. public universities, according to Forbes.com. The Forbes survey, released August 2008 looked at graduates with 10-20 years experience in the workplace.

According to U.S. News, the Jacobs School ranks 11th among the nation's top 191 engineering schools, and 5th in the nation among public universities. Our Jacobs School academic departments have highly ranked Ph.D. programs including:

The Department of Bioengineering ranks 2nd in the nation for biomedical engineering. The department has ranked among the top five programs in the nation every year for the past decade.

The interdisciplinary Bioinformatics program, ranked 13th in the nation, is offered jointly by eight UCSD departments including the Jacobs School's bioengineering and computer science and engineering departments.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) ranks highly in all categories surveyed: computer systems (9), computer science (13), theory (14), programming language (17) and artificial intelligence (19).

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ranks 17th for its programs in electrical engineering and communications, and 17th in computer engineering, a program offered in both ECE and CSE.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering ranks highly for mechanical engineering (21) and aerospace engineering (22).

The Department of Structural Engineering is ranked 20th in the specialty of civil engineering.
