Abstract
Cross-layer optimization is considered to obtain the optimal source code rate, channel code rate and Media Access Control (MAC) frame size over AWGN channel. A convex optimization problem is formulated over 802.11a with Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and then it is solved by a dual-based distributed algorithm using the Lagrangian duality. From the primal optimization variables, we can obtain the source bit rate to satisfy the network bit rate constraint, channel code rate of Rate Compatible Punctured Convolutional code (RCPC) and MAC frame size of 802.11a. From the dual optimization variable, the Quantization Parameter (QP) can be obtained for quantization and Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO). Furthermore, the number of slices of a video frame can be considered with cross-layer optimization for the error-resilience video coding.
