Abstract
What would a blog of your lecture look like? How would public note-taking affect communication, comprehension, and interest in your classroom? We developed a Tablet PC application for "note-bloggers" to ink during class on top of prepared lecture slides and instructor live notes. Other "watcher" students can view these notes on the Web either real-time during lecture or after class. A handful of students using NoteBlogger has the potential to help students understand lecture and stay engaged. A preliminary study demonstrated that such a tool has educational value for both bloggers and watchers. Bloggers strove to provide clear, organized notes, filled with useful hints or alternative explanations. Watchers were actively engaged during lecture, and sought assistance and reassurance in the blogs. Future work involves studying the effects of master note-blogging content provided by a TA as well as of multi-directional communication enabled by a Web-based chat interface.
