CURRENT STUDENTS

UCSD-LANL Cooperative Graduate Degree Programs:

UCSD graduate students with Los Alamos Fellowships

  • Registered masters or PhD students pursuing a degree in the area of structural health monitoring may be eligible for a Los Alamos Fellowship
  • Los Alamos Fellowships are generally awarded for 2 years, depending on the availability of funds. Renewals may be granted under exception.
  • Fellows at the end of their first year and each summer thereafter, are expected to spend a significant time during the summer at LANL (generally August-September) working with advisors at LANL; travel and housing will be provided while at LANL within university guidelines.
  • UCSD students traveling to Los Alamos should make travel arrangements in coordination with student and faculty advisors in their departments. Requests for summer housing should be made through lanl@ucsd.edu . Graduate students who are registered in the spring quarter preceding the summer are eligible to continue health coverage during the summer. Questions concerning continuity of stipend and insurance support should be directed toward student advisors in your department. Housing for UCSD students while at Los Alamos should be directed to lanl@ucsd.edu.

Los Alamos employees pursing advanced degrees with UCSD while remaining at Los Alamos are expected to:

  • Make regular (weekly) contact with UCSD major professors during the course of the year as well as regular contact with LANL advisors.
  • Spend significant time during the summer at UCSD (generally August-September) working with designated faculty advisors; travel and housing will be supported (by the Lab given available funding and within Laboratory policy) while at UCSD. Questions concerning housing and healthcare for LANL employees while at UCSD should be directed to lanl@ucsd.edu
  • Make at least one trip to UCSD (in addition to summer stays) to present a seminar on research progress and to consult with advisors.
  • Present progress on research at the Jacobs School Research Review held annually (the third Friday in February).
  • Make adequate progress toward degree in order to complete requirements in a timely manner.
